General Meeting #4

Who is Jesus Christ?

Here’s what you missed!

This week Fr. Champagne gave us an amazing talk explaining some of the ways we can identify the person of Jesus Christ. It would be easy for us to turn to the creed to give a simple definition for the person of Jesus Christ. Even still, the ways Jesus is defined in the creed might be hard for us to grasp. We can then turn to St. Bernard of Clairvaux who in his poem “Jesu, Dulcis Memoria” tells of the sweetness of Jesus, how he is far surpassing anything that could be described by humans and how he exceeds every human standard for excellence. Still, we find in Matthew’s gospel that he calls us to be his friend. This introduced the point that Jesus Christ is friendship itself, he is communion, he is the mystical body of Christ. To prove Jesus’ point even further in Matthew, he poses the question to the apostles, “Who do you say that I am?”. Christ exists no matter who we say he is, but he still desires for us to claim for ourselves our belief in his identity. Finally Fr. Champagne closed the talk with a reflection from St.Theresa describing all the ways that Jesus is dwelling within those around us. Jesus is present in many different ways and it is hard to grasp the entirety of his identity, even still we must seek him out in everything.
