The Cardinal Newman Lecture Series is a tradition that dates back to the 1950s. This year the lecture series will be held via Zoom Webinars.

Sarah Baquet is the proud wife to Eric Baquet and devoted mother of four. She received her Bachelor's degree in Theology and Religious Education from the Franciscan University of Steubenville. She is privileged to serve as Catholic Charities of Acadiana's Community Engagement Coordinator where she works with volunteers, donations and parish social ministries. Her background encompasses service in both foreign and domestic Catholic missions. She loves cultivating home, speaking, teaching, writing and building relationships.
Donald Anderson
Being an Agent of Change and Why Resiliency Matters

Donald Anderson is a Partner with the Washington, DC based risk intelligence and strategic advisory firm TD International (TDI). He oversees the operations of the Houston office of TDI and is actively engaged in operations in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. He advises clients on economic and counterparty due diligence, geopolitical risks, government relations, crisis situations, anti-corruption compliance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, social impact and ESG engagements, and commercial disputes.
Donald has a BS and a MS in civil engineering from Louisiana State University, and an MBA from Rice University. He routinely lectures on the importance business ethics and government relations. He has been a guest speaker for professional organizations such as the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA), the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the Financial Times of London, and others. He has also worked with state and local legislators as well as US congressional representatives on issues impacting energy and infrastructure policy.
Donald is an active board member with the Discover Fitness Foundation, a non-profit organization that awards athletic scholarships to children with special needs as well as the Christus Foundation for Healthcare which is dedicated to providing healthcare services to people of all faiths through clinics, mobile units, and specialized programs. Donald is also a Houston Marathon Legacy Runner and he was a member of the founding committee for the Steps-for-Students 5k Race/Walk benefiting Catholic education within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
Away from his professional life, Donald and his wife, Bonnie, have two children, Paul and Simone, who attend Saint Anne Catholic School. Donald and Bonnie are both active members of the Saint Anne Catholic Church Community, where they have both served on several school and church committees.

Kevin Roberts, Ph.D., is executive director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. A lifelong educator, Roberts earned his Ph.D. in American history from The University of Texas, thereafter serving as a history professor, and ultimately starting his own K-12 school, John Paul the Great Academy in Louisiana. He was then hired as president of Wyoming Catholic College, which the New York Times described as being full of “cowboy Catholics” for refusing federal student loans and grants. Both schools led by Roberts have earned regular recognition for being among the top Catholic schools in the nation.
As a scholar of America’s Founding, Roberts approaches every public policy issue with the desire to increase self-governance and decrease government overreach. Naturally, though he oversees all the Foundation’s policy efforts, he gravitates to initiatives on education reform, improving history and civics instruction, and transparency in government.
An avid outdoorsman, Roberts and his wife have four children, and share a deep love for the Texas Hill Country. They are parishioners at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock.
Jay
Toups
Distributism: A Path to
the Common Good
and Prosperity

James A Toups (Jay) is a husband, father of six, and a grandfather formed by the rich, Christian, cultural experience of the Deep South of the United States of America (US). As a Catholic, he has been active in evangelization with the parish of his church, and served on various parish and school boards. Toups works to answer God’s call for his life through his vocation as a husband and father, while weaving his faith into the deeds of his consulting business.
Educated in Catholic schools and a small, public college in Louisiana, Jay spends much of his time with his family, motivational public speaking and helping his clients grow, while building up the communities they serve. He has also developed a belief in the economic theory of distributism and has worked to integrate that in his business practices. Mr. Toups finds joy and hope in being called to serve Christ in the simplest ways and has a great love for Him and the Blessed Mother, Lectio Divina, adoration, and praying the rosary. He also enjoys reading the wisdom found in the writings of the great saints of the universal Church.
