Column Capitals

Hand-carved Corinthian column capitals created by ALBL Oberammergau Woodcarving Studio for Sacred Art have been installed throughout the new Our Lady of Wisdom Church. The 22 capitals were carved by the same company that made our Crucifixion scene for the rood beam above the sanctuary, and a St. Therese statue for the side altar.

A Corinthian capital is the topmost ornate decorative section of a classical Corinthian column, featuring stylized acanthus leaves, curling scrolls (volutes), and a flat abacus cap. Our capitals were carved from linden wood and are two feet tall.
